Frequently asked questions

Yes — housing bowls are torqued tightly to seal properly, and standard tools can slip or damage the housing. A matched spanner grips the specific bowl profile safely.

Spanners are matched to specific housing types (e.g. white slimline, HD10 heavy duty, HF10BB/HF20BB large diameter, or Pentair Big Blue housings) — check your housing model before ordering.

A generic strap wrench can work in some cases, but a matched spanner grips the housing's designed flats or lugs more securely and reduces the risk of slipping or cracking the bowl — we'd recommend the correct one where available.

In several of our ranges, yes — the same spanner (e.g. HAN13) covers matching housing families in both 10in and 20in sizes, since the bowl fitting is the same profile. Check the specific listing to confirm for your housing.

Just at each cartridge change — typically every 3–12 months depending on your filter type — so a spanner is a one-off purchase that lasts for the life of the housing.
