Spun-bonded cartridges are made from continuous melt-blown fibres bonded together in a graded density — coarser on the outside, finer toward the core — so sediment is captured throughout the depth of the media rather than just on the surface, giving good dirt-holding capacity for a given cartridge size.

Yes — spun-bonded depth filters are one of the most common choices for private, borehole, and well water, since their depth structure handles the variable, often heavier sediment loads typical of untreated supplies better than a finer pleated cartridge would.

As a starting point, 20–50 microns handles typical mains or borehole turbidity, while 5–10 microns gives a finer polish before a tap or appliance. If you don't have a water test, start coarser and see how quickly the cartridge loads up to judge whether you need a different rating.

Single-use. Sediment is captured throughout the depth of the media, so spun-bonded cartridges can't be effectively cleaned and reused — replace once flow drops or pressure differential across the housing rises.
