Hytrex II is Veolia's high-performance polypropylene depth filter, built from thermally bonded micro fibres that create a strong, secure cartridge structure. Like Purtrex, it traps particles throughout the full depth of the cartridge rather than just on the surface, but the thermal bonding process gives it a slightly higher nominal efficiency rating (80% vs Purtrex's 75%) and a reputation for very consistent, repeatable results.

Both are melt blown polypropylene depth filters from Veolia, but Hytrex uses thermally bonded micro fibres for a higher 80% nominal efficiency rating, compared with 75% for Purtrex. Purtrex is stocked in a wider spread of micron ratings, lengths and diameters; Hytrex is a smaller, more focused range aimed at applications where the extra efficiency and consistency matter most.

The Hytrex II range covers micron ratings from 1 through to 50 micron, in lengths from 9 3/4" up to 40", all in regular 2.5" diameter with Double Open Ended (DOE) end caps as standard. Check the individual product page for the exact micron and length combination in stock.

That code describes the end-cap and seal configuration rather than the filtration performance — "226/Fin" refers to the fin-style end-cap fitting (as opposed to the standard DOE open-ended design), and "Silicone" refers to the O-ring seal material. This matters for compatibility: a fin-end cartridge needs a housing designed for that fitting, so check your existing cartridge's end-cap type before ordering a replacement.

Hytrex II suits the same broad range of uses as Purtrex — whole house filtration, pre-filtration ahead of carbon filters and UV systems, borehole and well water, and commercial or industrial process water — but its higher nominal efficiency and thermally bonded construction make it a good choice where consistent, repeatable filtration performance matters most, such as protecting sensitive downstream equipment.
