Frequently asked questions

SRSO uses ion exchange resin — a gel-type sulphonated polystyrene cation resin — that releases sodium ions into the water while capturing the calcium and magnesium ions that cause hardness, the same underlying chemistry as a full water softener, delivered in cartridge or vessel form.

A full water softener automatically regenerates the resin bed on a timed or metered cycle using a brine solution. SRSO cartridges and refillable vessels are typically used for point-of-use or process applications where the resin is replaced or manually regenerated rather than automatically cycled — useful for smaller-scale or specific process needs rather than whole-house softening.

Commercial applications including food processing, pharmaceutical operations, glass washing, autoclaves, and as a pre-RO treatment or final polishing stage — anywhere targeted hardness reduction is needed without installing a full automatic softener.

Both — SRSO resin is available in pressure vessels for larger-scale industrial use and in empty cartridge shells for smaller point-of-use applications, so it can be matched to the scale of your installation.

Watch for hardness breaking through in your treated water — a hardness test kit or the return of scale symptoms is the clearest sign the resin's capacity is exhausted and needs replacing or regenerating.
