Signs your quartz sleeve needs replacing
- The sleeve has a visible film of scale, cloudiness or scratching.
- You notice a yellow or brown tinge through the quartz.
- The UV system's monitor or alarm is triggering unexpectedly.
- The sleeve has been in service for around a year or more without being changed.
In the Saphir 1/Wonder T245330 system, the quartz sleeve stops the lamp ever coming into direct contact with water while still letting the UV-C light through to treat it. Once the surface scales, scratches or discolours, that light transmission drops off, so the lamp can carry on lighting up while disinfection quietly loses effectiveness.
WrekinWater has been matching customers to the correct part for their specific UV model for over 15 years, serving more than 50,000 customers from its Bettisfield, Shropshire base, and holds an "Excellent" Trustpilot rating. Getting the model-specific sleeve right the first time avoids fitting issues with these cross-branded DaRo/Wonder units.
How to replace it
- Switch off the UV unit and isolate the water supply to the housing.
- Drain the housing, then undo the retaining nut or union at the base.
- Remove the lamp first, then withdraw the old quartz sleeve from the housing.
- Clean the housing bore and fit new O-rings before inserting the replacement sleeve.
- Refit the lamp, reassemble the housing, and restore water and power.
- Run water to drain for a minute or two before drinking it.
