Signs you need this part
- You want a carbon filter stage but don't want to pay for a full backwashing system.
- You'd rather choose your own carbon media than accept a pre-packed cartridge.
- Your existing vessel or head has cracked or the ports have failed.
- You're building a custom filtration setup and need an empty vessel with a Clack head already fitted.
A carbon media bed works by adsorbing dissolved organics, chlorine by-products, and the compounds responsible for colour, taste and odour as water passes through it, and the Clack 1191 head controls the flow through the vessel's in and out ports. Because the vessel is supplied empty, the result depends on choosing a suitable carbon media and packing it correctly — get that wrong and you'll see poor colour removal or excessive pressure loss. Left without any carbon stage at all, a private supply with colour or taste issues will simply carry those problems through to the tap.
WrekinWater is a family-run water treatment company based in Bettisfield, Shropshire, with 15 years' experience and more than 50,000 customers served. We stock Clack components and can advise on suitable carbon media to fill this vessel with.
How to fit it
- Isolate the water supply and relieve pressure in the pipework where the vessel will be fitted.
- Fill the vessel with your chosen carbon media, following the media manufacturer's fill level guidance.
- Fit the Clack 1191 head onto the vessel and confirm it's seated and sealed correctly.
- Connect the in and out ports to your pipework, matching the flow direction marked on the head.
- Restore the water supply gradually and check all joints for leaks.
- Backwash or rinse the media as directed before putting the filter into normal use.
