The 1000215 is a fixed-orifice backwash flow controller sized for 14in diameter resin vessels, rated at 4.8gpm (18.2lpm), fitting into the drain line flow control (DLFC) housing on Autotrol control valves without a separate ball. It sets the backwash flow rate so the resin bed lifts, expands and cleans properly without resin being carried away to drain. Why it fails / why it matters

Backwash flow has to be tuned to the vessel diameter so the bed expands by the right percentage, loosening compacted media and flushing out sediment and iron fouling without lifting resin high enough to escape to drain. A worn, wrong-sized or missing flow controller either starves the backwash of flow, leaving the bed dirty and prone to channelling, or lets too much water through and strips resin out of the vessel over successive regenerations.

How to fit it

1. Isolate the softener at the bypass and shut off the mains supply
2. Locate the drain line flow control (DLFC) housing on the control valve body
3. Release the retaining cap or clip and lift out the old flow controller washer
4. Fit the new 1000215 controller, checking the o-ring is present and undamaged
5. Refit the DLFC cap securely and restore the mains supply
6. Run a manual regeneration and check the backwash flow rate at the drain matches expectations
