Product Description
This QJ24680DE quartz thimble is the domed-end replacement for Wonder C-480, CE-480, H-480 and HE-480 UV disinfection units, supplied by WrekinWater. It is the largest capacity thimble in the 180/360/480 Wonder range, built for units treating a higher flow rate than the 180 and 360 series. Like the smaller thimbles, it is sealed at one end and open at the other where the lamp and retaining hardware fit.

Signs your quartz sleeve needs replacing
- The thimble has visible scale or fine scratching along its surface.
- A yellow or brown discolouration has developed that a light wipe will not remove.
- The 480-series unit's UV monitor or alarm has triggered a low-intensity warning.
- The thimble is around 12 months old, the typical replacement point for this size of unit.
In a 480-series unit this thimble keeps the lamp sealed away from the higher volume of water passing through the chamber, while still letting UV light through the quartz wall to treat it. Because these units are sized for a larger flow than the 180 or 360 series, a fouled or scratched thimble here reduces disinfection across more water per minute, even though the lamp continues to light normally. Regular renewal matters more, not less, on the largest unit in the range.
WrekinWater supplies this thimble matched specifically to the C-480/CE-480/H-480/HE-480 series, built on 15 years of experience supplying Wonder UV parts from Shropshire. We are rated Excellent on Trustpilot and can confirm you have the right size before you commit to an order.
How to replace it
- Isolate the water supply to the unit and switch off power at the mains.
- Undo the retaining nut or union at the open end and carefully remove the lamp.
- Withdraw the old QJ24680DE thimble from the open end of the housing.
- Clean out the housing bore and fit new O-rings before fitting the replacement.
- Insert the new thimble domed-end first, refit the lamp, and reassemble the housing.
- Restore the water supply and power, then run the system to drain briefly before use.
