Product Description
Hydrogen sulphide (H2S) is a gas which if dissolved in water smells like rotten eggs. The easiest way to remove the smell of small amounts is to aerate the water or pass it through carbon. In conventional carbon filters the carbon gets saturated and regularly needs replacing. In this novel system the H2S is sprayed through a layer of air held in the top of the vessel oxidising the gas vastly improving the capacity of the carbon reducing the need and cost of replacement carbon.
This 8x17 Floor standing vessel contains 8ltrs of Catalytic Activated Carbon.
Catalytic carbon is a specially treated activated carbon that chemically breaks down and traps hard-to-remove pollutants. It is most highly valued for removing chloramines (municipal disinfectants) and hydrogen sulfide (which causes the "rotten egg" smell in well water).
Beyond those key pollutants, catalytic carbon targets a wide variety of water contaminants:
- Chlorine and Chloramines: Converts toxic disinfectants into harmless chloride, ammonia, and nitrogen.
- Hydrogen Sulfide: Neutralizes and converts this gas into harmless compounds to remove foul odours.
- Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs): Eliminates agricultural and industrial chemicals like herbicides, pesticides, and trihalomethanes (THMs).
- Heavy Metals & Minerals: Reduces low levels of iron and manganese.
- Emerging Contaminants: Targets and degrades stubborn synthetic chemicals like PFAS, PFOA, and PFOS.
Because it acts as a catalyst, it doesn't just physically trap contaminants like standard activated carbon—it accelerates chemical reactions to decompose them.
