The 1235352 is the camshaft fitted to Autotrol 263 and 268 mechanical control valves, the geared shaft that the drive motor turns to step the valve through each stage of regeneration. Its cam lobes physically move the internal mechanism and, on many valves, trip the position switches that tell the controller where the cycle is up to. WrekinWater stocks this camshaft for engineers and DIY customers dealing with a valve that's stuck mid-cycle or won't advance through regeneration.

Technical specifications

OEM Part Number 1235352
Type Camshaft (regeneration cycle drive shaft)
Position Internal drive assembly, geared to the timer/drive motor
Compatible With Autotrol 263 and 268 control valves
Material Reinforced engineering plastic
Brand Autotrol (Pentair)

Symptoms that mean you need this part

  • The valve motor runs but the valve doesn't advance through the regeneration stages
  • A grinding or slipping noise comes from the valve during regeneration, suggesting worn cam or gear teeth
  • The softener gets stuck between cycle positions, for example halfway through backwash or brine draw
  • Regeneration timing seems inconsistent or stages are being skipped altogether

Why it fails / why it matters

The camshaft is the mechanical heart of a 263 or 268 valve's regeneration sequence, geared to the drive motor and using its cam lobes to physically shift the internal mechanism and trigger the cycle position switches in the correct order. Because the cams and gear teeth are moulded into a single plastic shaft, years of cycling combined with grit or scale in the mechanism gradually wear the lobes and teeth down until they slip or fail to engage properly. Once that happens the motor can run without actually turning the valve through its stages, leaving the softener stuck mid-cycle or cycling incorrectly, and the camshaft itself needs replacing to restore reliable operation.

Why buy this from WrekinWater

WrekinWater has supplied Autotrol 263 and 268 mechanical valve components including camshafts for over 15 years from its Bettisfield, Shropshire base, using its experience with more than 50,000 customers to keep the parts that actually fail in stock rather than just the popular ones. As a specialist stockist of Pentair Fleck, Autotrol, Clack and Kinetico spares rated Excellent on Trustpilot, WrekinWater is a reliable source when an older mechanical valve needs a precise, correctly geared replacement part.

How to fit it

  1. Isolate the mains supply and switch the valve to bypass before opening the drive assembly cover
  2. Disconnect the drive motor and remove the cover housing the camshaft and cycle position switches
  3. Carefully withdraw the worn camshaft, noting the orientation of the cam lobes relative to the current cycle position
  4. Inspect the drive gear and position switches for wear or damage while the shaft is out
  5. Fit the new 1235352 camshaft, aligning the cam lobes and gear teeth correctly with the drive motor and switches
  6. Refit the cover and drive motor, restore the mains supply and run a full manual regeneration to confirm the valve steps through every stage correctly

Frequently Asked Questions

Unfortunately we are unable to accept returns on our Water Softener Parts So please confirm the correct part is ordered. If you have any doubt please feel free to call us prior to purchase for confirmation.

It's the geared shaft the drive motor turns to physically move the valve mechanism through each regeneration stage, and its cam lobes typically trigger the position switches too.

This is a classic sign of worn cam or gear teeth on the camshaft slipping instead of engaging, meaning the motor turns without actually advancing the valve.

No, the 1235352 is specifically for the 263 and 268 control valves. Other Autotrol ranges such as the Logix 700 series use an electronic drive mechanism rather than a mechanical camshaft.
