The 1032416 is the genuine-spec air check valve float chamber kit for the Autotrol 255 control valve, the small assembly fitted to the brine line that stops air drawn in with the brine solution from being pushed into the resin bed during refill. It carries a 3/8" thread to match the standard 255 brine tube connection and includes the float and chamber components as a kit. If your softener is spitting air at taps after regeneration, or brine draw seems inconsistent, this is the part responsible, and WrekinWater stocks the correct genuine-spec kit.

Symptoms that mean you need this part
- Taps spit or splutter air for a few seconds after the softener has regenerated
- Brine draw seems weak, slow or inconsistent between regeneration cycles
- You can hear air being drawn or gurgling in the brine line during the brine draw stage
- The float inside the chamber is visibly stuck, cracked or missing when the assembly is inspected
Why it fails / why it matters
As brine is drawn from the salt tank into the resin bed, the level in the brine tank drops until it's nearly empty, and without an air check valve the system would continue drawing air down the same line once the liquid runs out, pushing that air into the resin bed and out through the household pipework. The float chamber kit holds a small float that rises and falls with the brine level, sealing off the line once brine is exhausted so only liquid, never air, is drawn during the brine stage. The float and its seat wear and can foul with salt sediment or mineral deposits over years of use, at which point the seal stops closing reliably and air starts making it through to the plumbing.
Why buy this from WrekinWater
WrekinWater has stocked genuine-spec Autotrol 255 brine line components for over 15 years from its Bettisfield, Shropshire base, understanding that a spitting tap after regeneration is a small annoyance that traces back to exactly this kind of low-cost part. As specialists in Pentair Fleck, Autotrol, Clack and Kinetico parts with more than 50,000 customers served and an Excellent Trustpilot rating, WrekinWater makes sure the small brine-line parts are as easy to source as the big components.
How to fit it
- Isolate the softener at the bypass valve and disconnect the brine line from the control valve
- Locate the air check valve assembly on the brine tube connection and unscrew it from its 3/8" thread port
- Remove the old float chamber and inspect it for cracking, sediment build-up or a stuck float
- Clean the mating threads and fit the new 1032416 float chamber kit, ensuring the float moves freely inside its chamber
- Reconnect the brine line to the control valve and restore the water supply
- Run a manual regeneration through a full brine draw and refill cycle, checking taps afterwards for any trace of air
