The Performa 278 with 762 LOGIX Metered Control is a complete regenerating control valve assembly for the larger-bore Performa 278 valve body, built for twin-alternating softener systems handling higher continuous flow. The 762 head triggers regeneration based on metered water use and coordinates alternation between the two tanks, so one is always in service while the other regenerates, keeping soft water supply continuous even under heavy commercial demand. Supplied as a full valve and control head assembly, this unit is stocked by WrekinWater as a direct replacement for an existing Performa 278-762 valve.

Symptoms that mean you need this part
- The valve is no longer alternating correctly between the two tanks, or one tank is regenerating far more often than the other
- The turbine meter has failed or is under-reading, triggering regeneration too early, too late, or not at all
- The electronic control head has failed and won't display, program or hold settings
- The larger 278 piston and seal stack is worn beyond what a rebuild kit can restore, causing continuous leakage to drain
- The valve body is cracked, split or otherwise physically damaged and needs replacing as a whole
Why it fails / why it matters
On a high-flow twin-alternating installation, the 762 head has to track usage accurately and switch tanks reliably to keep up with commercial demand, and the larger 278 valve body has to handle that flow without leaking or sticking. If the meter, electronics, piston or seals fail, the usual symptoms are one tank working harder than the other, both tanks regenerating together and interrupting supply, or the valve failing to switch over at all. Where the fault is in the valve body, meter or control head itself rather than a simple seal, replacing the complete 278-762 assembly restores correct operation.

How to fit it
- Before ordering, confirm the replacement valve's tank thread, riser tube diameter and interconnect wiring match your existing 278 twin installation
- Isolate the softener system at the bypass valve and relieve pressure from both mineral tanks before starting work
- Have a competent installer or commercial water treatment engineer disconnect the existing valve from the tank head, drain line, brine line and twin-alternating interconnect
- Transfer the riser tube and distributor basket into the new 278-762 valve assembly, fitting new o-rings as needed
- Fit the new valve to the tank, reconnect inlet, outlet, drain, brine and interconnect wiring, then reprogram the meter and alternation settings
- Return the system to service and confirm both tanks alternate and regenerate correctly through at least one full cycle before leaving it unattended
