Why it fails / why it matters

At very hard water levels, each litre passing through the resin bed uses up softening capacity much faster than on a moderate supply, so the meter's hardness disc has a bigger job to do in calculating when regeneration is due. If a disc rated for a lower hardness is left fitted on a very hard water supply, the meter significantly under-counts capacity usage, and the softener can run well past its true capacity before regenerating, letting noticeably hard water through in the meantime. How to fit it

1. Get a current, accurate water hardness test result for your property in ppm (mg/L)
2. Confirm the reading falls within Disc 5's range, up to 305ppm (mg/L)
3. Turn off the water supply to the softener and relieve system pressure before opening the meter housing
4. Open the Kinetico water meter body and remove the disc currently fitted
5. Fit Disc 5 (part number 1508), ensuring it seats correctly, then reassemble the meter housing
