Product Description
The Kinetico Meter Disc 8 (p/n 1511) is the calibration disc used inside the meter cap of Kinetico non-electric water softeners on some of the hardest domestic water supplies in the UK, covering hardness levels up to 474ppm (mg/l). WrekinWater stocks genuine Kinetico meter discs so customers with very hard water can recalibrate their softener's regeneration point to match a confirmed hardness test rather than relying on a generic setting.

Symptoms that mean you need this part
- A water hardness test shows a very high reading, close to or above your current disc's rating
- Softened water starts to feel or test hard well before the next scheduled regeneration
- You are on a private borehole or well supply with unusually high mineral content
- Your local water hardness data or a home test kit shows a reading in the 450-474ppm range
Why it fails / why it matters
The meter disc fitted inside a Kinetico softener determines exactly how much water is measured before the unit regenerates, and that measurement only stays accurate if the disc rating matches your real incoming hardness. Disc 8 covers supplies tested up to 474ppm, among the hardest levels found in UK properties, so fitting it should always follow a current hardness test rather than a guess — too low a rating and the softener will over-regenerate, too high a rating and hardness will slip through untreated.

How to fit it
- Confirm your current water hardness in ppm (mg/l) with a test kit or your water supplier before ordering
- Switch the softener to bypass and relieve system pressure
- Remove the meter cap from the Kinetico control valve
- Lift out the old calibration disc, noting how it was seated
- Fit Disc 8 in the same orientation and refit the meter cap firmly
- Return the softener to service and recheck softened water hardness over the following days
