Product Description
This drain line flow controller (DLFC) housing is the genuine backwash flow control fitting used on Autotrol water softener and filter valves, controlling how quickly water leaves the tank during the backwash stage of regeneration. WrekinWater supplies this housing on its own — without the check ball — for customers replacing a cracked or leaking controller while reusing their existing ball, or fitting a new one separately.

Symptoms that mean you need this part
- The DLFC housing is visibly cracked, warped or leaking at the drain line fitting
- Water drips from the drain line connection between regeneration cycles
- Backwash flow during regeneration is noticeably faster or slower than normal
- You can hear a rattling or clicking check ball, suggesting the housing seat is worn
Why it fails / why it matters
On Autotrol valves, the DLFC housing holds a check ball against a calibrated seat to regulate backwash drain flow, preventing the resin or media bed from being disturbed too violently while still allowing a thorough clean. Constant pressure cycling, UV exposure and age make the plastic housing brittle, and it can crack or the ball seat can wear, causing leaks or an incorrect backwash flow rate.

How to fit it
- Shut off the water supply and place the Autotrol valve in bypass
- Locate the DLFC fitting on the drain line elbow at the base of the valve
- Unscrew the old, damaged housing and retain the existing check ball if it's still in good condition
- Fit the ball into the new housing (or fit a compatible replacement ball if needed)
- Screw the new DLFC housing into the drain line fitting and tighten securely
- Restore the water supply and run a manual regeneration to confirm correct backwash flow and no leaks
