Product Description
This 8 litre high grade cation exchange resin refill is designed for DVA manual (non-electric) water softeners, restoring full softening capacity once the original resin bed has fouled or reached the end of its working life. WrekinWater supplies high grade resin refills to keep manual softeners performing correctly for households who've noticed softening capacity dropping despite correct salt and regeneration settings.

Symptoms that mean you need this part
- Softened water no longer feels fully soft even straight after a regeneration
- Hardness is breaking through noticeably sooner between regeneration cycles
- The softener is over 10-15 years old and has never had a resin change
- Resin beads look discoloured, clumped or coated when checked in the tank
Why it fails / why it matters
Cation exchange resin softens water by swapping calcium and magnesium ions for sodium, but each bead has a finite capacity that's gradually reduced by iron fouling, chlorine oxidation, sediment coating and simple mechanical wear over years of regular regeneration. Once the resin bed is exhausted or fouled beyond what regeneration alone can restore, softening capacity drops permanently and the only fix is replacing the resin.

How to fit it
- Isolate the softener from the mains supply and place it in bypass
- Drain the resin tank down and disconnect the control valve or riser tube assembly
- Carefully empty the old, exhausted resin from the tank, protecting the riser tube from damage
- Rinse the tank and inspect the riser tube and distributor basket for wear or debris
- Refill the tank with the fresh 8 litre high grade resin charge to the correct level
- Reassemble the valve and riser, then backwash thoroughly to settle the bed and flush fines before returning to service
