The G0958 gear bush is a small but essential Harvey spare part that supports the gear shaft inside the timer mechanism of non-electric twin tank water softeners. WrekinWater supplies it as a genuine replacement for systems where the timing gears have started to wear or run loose. It's an inexpensive part, but a worn bush here can throw off the whole regeneration schedule.
| Part number | G0958 |

| Position | Timer gear train |
| Function | Supports and guides the gear shaft |
| Pack contents | One gear bush |
Signs you need this part
- The timer mechanism feels stiff, gritty, or uneven when it turns.
- Regeneration timing has become unpredictable or drifts over time.
- You can see or feel play or wobble in the gear shaft when the cover is off.
- Gears appear to be skipping or not meshing cleanly during operation.
The gear bush holds the timer's gear shaft steady as it turns, keeping the gear train properly aligned. As the bush wears with years of use, play develops in the shaft, which lets the gears sit slightly out of mesh - and once that happens, teeth can skip or bind, making the regeneration timing unreliable even if every other part of the mechanism is otherwise sound.
WrekinWater is a family run business based in Bettisfield, Shropshire, serving more than 50,000 customers over 15 years with an Excellent Trustpilot rating, and stocks genuine low-cost Harvey spares like this gear bush that are easy to overlook but keep a system running accurately.
How to fit it
- Isolate the water supply to the softener before opening any covers.
- Remove the cover over the timer or gear mechanism, keeping any screws safe.
- Note the position and mesh of the gears before disturbing them.
- Carefully withdraw the worn gear bush from the shaft.
- Fit the new G0958 bush in the same position and re-seat the gear shaft.
- Refit the cover and manually check the timer turns smoothly before restoring water.
