The Harvey G3258 H25 Service Meter is the "brain" of your mechanical water softener. It is responsible for precisely measuring water consumption to trigger a regeneration cycle at the optimal moment. Once triggered, control is handed over to the regeneration meter to manage the brine draw and resin cleaning process.

⚠️ Compatibility Warning

  • Models: Specifically designed for Harvey H25 series twin tank softeners.

  • Note: This part is not suitable for the newer H20b or H20c models.

Key Symptoms: Why Replace the G3258?

While a softener "running to drain" is often a shuttle valve issue, a faulty Service Meter manifests in more specific ways:

  1. Hard Water Intermittently: If the meter fails to measure consumption, the system won't trigger a regeneration, leading to hard water passing through the system.

  2. Incorrect Regeneration Timing: The system regenerates too frequently (wasting salt) or not often enough.

  3. Salt Bin Overfilling: If the regeneration cycle is not being initiated or completed correctly due to meter failure, the brine tank levels may become erratic.

  4. Complete Cycle Failure: If the Service Meter fails to "hand over" control to the Regeneration Meter, the system will stall.

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting & Airlock Fix

If your softener is continually running to drain, we recommend replacing the G1491 Shuttle Valve first. If issues persist after a shuttle change, you may have an airlock. Follow these steps to flush the system:

  1. Isolate: Turn off both the Inlet and Outlet valves.

  2. Depressurize: Open the nearest softened water tap.

  3. Sequence: Open the Outlet valve first.

  4. Flush: Slowly open the Inlet valve. You will hear air being expelled through the tap. Continue until the flow is steady.

  5. Test: Manually run the regeneration cycle twice to ensure the air is fully purged and the meters are engaging.

  6. Next Step: If salt bin issues or drainage faults continue after these steps, replace the G3258 Service Meter Assembly.
