Product Description

The Kinetico Meter Disc 6 (part number 1509) is a small calibration disc supplied by WrekinWater that calibrates a Kinetico non-electric water meter for water hardness up to 362ppm (mg/L), the top of the range and the disc most needed in the UK's extremely hard water areas, such as much of London, the Home Counties and other chalk or limestone-fed regions. At this level of hardness, getting the correct disc fitted is essential to stop the softener overrunning its true capacity between regenerations.

Symptoms that mean you need this part

  • Persistent, heavy limescale on taps, showers, kettles and appliances even though the softener seems to be operating
  • A water hardness test result at the top end of the scale, at or above 305ppm, that doesn't match the disc currently fitted
  • The softener is regenerating noticeably infrequently for a property known to be in an extremely hard water area
  • A recent water company report or test confirming extremely hard water that hasn't yet been matched to the correct meter disc

Why it fails / why it matters

In extremely hard water areas, the resin bed's usable capacity per litre is used up fastest of all, so accurate metering matters more here than at any other hardness level. If a disc rated for a lower hardness is fitted on a supply this hard, the meter dramatically under-counts how quickly capacity is being consumed, and the softener can run well beyond its true limit before triggering a regeneration, allowing extremely hard water through for an extended period. Disc 6 exists specifically to correct this at the top end of the scale, matching the meter precisely to the hardest UK supplies.

Why buy this from WrekinWater

WrekinWater has served more than 50,000 customers over 15 years from its base in Bettisfield, Shropshire, and carries the full set of genuine Kinetico meter discs alongside Pentair Fleck, Autotrol and Clack parts, including the discs most needed by customers in the UK's hardest water regions. As a UK-registered company (Company No. 11000488) rated Excellent on Trustpilot, WrekinWater makes it easy to get exactly the right disc once you have a confirmed hardness reading.

How to fit it

  1. Get an up-to-date water hardness test result for your property in ppm (mg/L)
  2. Confirm the reading falls within Disc 6's range, up to 362ppm (mg/L)
  3. Turn off the water supply to the softener and relieve system pressure before opening the meter housing
  4. Open the Kinetico water meter body and remove the disc currently fitted
  5. Fit Disc 6 (part number 1509), making sure it's correctly seated, then reassemble the meter housing
  6. Restore the water supply and confirm the meter turns freely and the softener now regenerates on a schedule matched to extremely hard water

Frequently asked questions

You'll need a water hardness test result. Disc 6 covers up to 362ppm and is typically needed in the UK's hardest water areas; anything below around 305ppm would usually be covered by Disc 5.

At high hardness levels, softening capacity is used up much faster per litre, so even a small mismatch between the fitted disc and your real hardness can lead to noticeably hard water passing through before the next regeneration.

It's better to start with an accurate hardness test result and order the matching disc directly, since discs are inexpensive and correctly matching one to a genuine test avoids unnecessary swapping.
