Product Description
This is the genuine Kinetico tail set, part 10081: a pack of two 3/4 inch BSP male adaptor tails complete with O-rings, used to connect a Kinetico water softener to your household pipework. WrekinWater supplies this set to replace tails that are leaking or have perished seals at the valve head connection, and it's the same fitting used across Kinetico's non-electric softener range.

Signs this seal needs replacing
- Water weeps or drips around the tail where it screws into the valve head.
- The O-ring on the tail feels hardened, cracked or perished when removed.
- The joint still leaks after you've refitted the tail and bypass valve.
- You notice damp patches or mineral staining around the softener's pipework connections.
The O-ring on each tail is what makes the joint between the tail set and the Kinetico valve head watertight under mains pressure. Constant contact with treated and untreated water, plus the mild flexing that happens whenever the bypass valve is operated, gradually hardens the rubber. Once it loses its flexibility it can no longer form a tight seal against the valve head, and water finds its way out at the thread.
WrekinWater is a family run business based in Bettisfield, Shropshire, that has served more than 50,000 customers over 15 years and is rated Excellent on Trustpilot. As a stockist of Kinetico parts, we supply the genuine tail set rather than a generic substitute, so it seals correctly against your existing valve head.
How to replace it
- Isolate the mains water supply and turn the softener to bypass.
- Relieve any residual pressure by opening a nearby tap.
- Unscrew the old tail set from the valve head and pipework.
- Remove the old O-rings and clean the sealing faces.
- Lightly lubricate the new O-rings with food-safe silicone grease and fit the new tail set.
- Restore the water supply, take the softener off bypass, and check the joint for leaks.
