Signs your membrane needs replacing
- Drinking water tastes flatter or less crisp than it used to.
- The RO storage tank takes noticeably longer to refill after use.
- A TDS meter reading has crept up compared to when the membrane was new.
- It's been more than 2-3 years since the membrane was last changed.
The membrane is the working heart of an RO system: a semi-permeable film wound tightly inside the housing that lets water molecules pass through under pressure while rejecting dissolved solids, heavy metals and most other contaminants. As it ages, fine particles and scale gradually foul its surface and the film itself can compact, so filtered water quality and flow rate both fall away even though the system still looks and sounds like it's working normally.
WrekinWater is a family run company based in Bettisfield, Shropshire, and has supplied water treatment parts and systems to more than 50,000 customers over 15 years. We stock genuine Pallas components alongside other major RO brands and are rated Excellent on Trustpilot, so you can order this membrane with confidence it's the right spec for your system.
How to replace it
- Turn off the cold water feed to the RO system and switch off any booster pump at the socket.
- Open the tap or dispenser to release residual pressure in the system.
- Unscrew the membrane housing cap, taking care of the O-ring seal underneath.
- Withdraw the old membrane, noting which end the flow restrictor and O-rings sit on.
- Insert the new 3012 membrane the same way round and refit the housing cap.
- Restore the water supply and power, then flush to drain for 20-30 minutes before drinking the water.
