Product Description
This valve disc set, also known as the flappers, is the genuine Pentair Autotrol part 1041174 for the 263, 268 and 278 Performa 1in control valves. WrekinWater supplies it as a direct replacement for the discs that sit within the piston and spacer stack, directing water to the correct port at each stage of a regeneration cycle. Fitting a worn or damaged disc set restores the valve's ability to switch cleanly between service, backwash, brine and rinse.

Signs you need this part
- Hardness is coming through the tap even though the piston and motor still cycle normally.
- Water pressure or flow feels inconsistent during backwash or brine draw.
- The valve seems to be regenerating but not treating water correctly afterwards.
- You can see a disc is cracked, split, or missing when the spacer stack is inspected.
The disc set inside a Performa valve acts like a set of directional flappers, opening and closing against each spacer to route water through the correct sequence of ports as the piston moves through a regeneration. Once a disc perishes, cracks, or sits proud of its seat, water can leak between stages - so the valve may go through the motions of a regeneration cycle without actually delivering brine or rinse water where it's needed, leaving the resin under-treated.
WrekinWater is a family run water treatment retailer based in Bettisfield, Shropshire, rated Excellent on Trustpilot, and stocks genuine Pentair Autotrol spares like this disc set alongside the softeners that use them.
How to fit it
- Turn off the water supply to the valve, or put it into bypass, and press the button to relieve trapped pressure.
- Remove the valve's back plate or motor as needed to access the piston and spacer stack.
- Withdraw the piston assembly carefully, noting the order of the spacers and discs as you go.
- Lift out the old, worn disc set and fit the new discs in the same orientation.
- Reassemble the spacer stack and piston, then refit the motor or back plate.
- Restore the water supply and run a manual regeneration to confirm the valve cycles cleanly.
