RQ-12 - Atlas L12 Replacement Quartz Sleeve and Luminor RQ-290

This is WrekinWater's replacement quartz sleeve for the compact Atlas L12 UV disinfection system, also sold as the Luminor RQ-290. The domed-end sleeve comes complete with its O-ring, so it's ready to fit in place of an original that has clouded, scaled or scratched over time.

Signs your quartz sleeve needs replacing

• Cloudiness, scaling or fine scratches visible on the sleeve.
• A yellow or brown tint developing on the quartz.
• The UV monitor or alarm triggers even though the lamp is still lit.
• The sleeve has been fitted for roughly 12 months or longer.

On the compact L12/RQ-290 unit, the quartz sleeve keeps the lamp dry while letting UV-C light pass through into the water flowing around it. Once scale, staining or scratches build up on the quartz, less of that light reaches the water, so the smaller unit's already limited disinfection margin narrows further even though the lamp still glows normally.

How to replace it

1. Isolate the water supply and switch off the UV unit.
2. Drain the chamber and undo the retaining nut or union cap at the base.
3. Withdraw the lamp, then carefully slide out the old quartz sleeve.
4. Clean the housing and fit the new O-ring before inserting the new sleeve.
5. Refit the lamp, reassemble the retaining nut or union, and restore water and power.
6. Run water to drain for a minute or two before using it for drinking.
