RQ-57 - Atlas L57 Replacement Quartz Sleeve and Luminor RQ-999

This RQ-57 sleeve is the replacement quartz sleeve for Atlas L57 UV systems, also fitting units labelled as a Luminor RQ-999. WrekinWater includes a new O-ring with it, so the seal and the sleeve arrive together rather than as two separate orders. As with the rest of the L-series, it's a domed-end design.

Signs your quartz sleeve needs replacing

• The glass looks cloudy, scaled, or scratched rather than clear.
• There's brown or yellow discolouration visible on the sleeve.
• The UV monitor or alarm activates even though the lamp is lit.
• It's roughly a year since the sleeve was last changed.

On the Atlas L57 (or Luminor RQ-999), the quartz sleeve is the only thing standing between the lamp and the water it's treating, letting UV light through while keeping the lamp itself dry. As it fouls with scale or scratches with age, less UV energy reaches the water even though the lamp continues to light up normally. Given the L57 is one of the larger lamps in the range, a fouled sleeve here can mean a meaningful amount of water passing through with reduced treatment.

How to replace it

1. Isolate the water supply to the UV unit and drain the housing.
2. Undo the retaining nut or union, then withdraw the lamp and the old sleeve.
3. Clean scale or fouling out of the housing before fitting the replacement.
4. Fit the new O-ring supplied and insert the new sleeve, domed end first.
5. Refit the lamp, restore power and water supply, and run to drain briefly before use.
