Signs you need to top up/replace this
- Hardness or iron staining is reappearing between scheduled regenerations.
- The salt in the cabinet has caked into a solid mass instead of dissolving freely.
- The brine level in the cabinet's salt compartment is visibly low.
- Your commercial softener's regeneration cycle is running but performance hasn't improved.
A commercial cabinet softener regenerates its resin bed by drawing a concentrated brine solution from dissolved salt, flushing out the hardness (and, on combination units, iron and manganese) that the resin has picked up. If the salt supply runs low, or clumps and stops dissolving evenly, the brine produced is too weak to fully recharge the resin bed, and the softener's output quality drops even though the control valve is still cycling normally.

How to top up / replace it
- Open the salt compartment lid on the cabinet softener.
- Check the current salt level before adding more.
- Add tablet salt gradually, distributing it evenly rather than piling it in one spot.
- Fill to the level stated in your softener's manual, without overfilling.
- Never mix tablet salt with a different salt type in the same compartment.
- Allow the salt to settle before the next scheduled regeneration.
