A UV quartz sleeve used in an ultra violet light water treatment system does not always need annual replacement, but it must be cleaned and checked for limescale, staining or cracks. If the quartz sleeve becomes cloudy, etched or damaged, it should be replaced immediately to maintain proper UV transmission and effective water disinfection.

A UV quartz sleeve protects the UV lamp inside your ultra violet light system while allowing maximum UV light transmission into the water. The quartz sleeve creates a waterproof barrier between the electrical UV lamp and the flowing water, ensuring safe and efficient UV disinfection. Without a clean and intact UV quartz sleeve, the ultra violet light cannot effectively neutralise bacteria, viruses and microorganisms.

Yes. Limescale, iron and manganese buildup can coat the UV quartz sleeve and reduce the amount of ultra violet light passing through the glass. This reduces UV performance and can compromise water safety. In hard water areas, regular cleaning of your UV quartz sleeve is essential to maintain optimal UV output and ensure your ultra violet light system continues to operate correctly.
