Product Description
The Kinetico Meter Disc 3 (part number 1506) is a small calibration disc supplied by WrekinWater that calibrates a Kinetico non-electric water meter for water hardness up to 186ppm (mg/L), the range many UK properties on moderately hard mains water fall into. Matching the disc to a genuine hardness test result is what keeps regeneration timing accurate and efficient for your specific supply.

Symptoms that mean you need this part
- Regeneration cycles are happening at a frequency that doesn't line up with a moderately hard water hardness test result
- Limescale is starting to reappear even though the softener appears to be running, hinting the fitted disc reads lower than your actual hardness
- You've recently tested your water and the ppm figure no longer matches the disc currently installed
- Salt usage patterns have changed unexpectedly without any change in household water consumption
Why it fails / why it matters
A Kinetico non-electric meter uses the fitted hardness disc to work out how much softening capacity is used per litre of water passed, and that calculation is only accurate if the disc matches your real water hardness. On a moderately hard supply, fitting a disc calibrated for softer water means the meter under-counts the resin's workload and calls for regeneration too late, allowing some hardness to slip through before the system regenerates. Because the disc is a calibration setting rather than a wearing component, correcting this is simply a matter of fitting the disc that matches your latest hardness test.

How to fit it
- Obtain a current water hardness test result for your property in ppm (mg/L)
- Confirm the reading falls within Disc 3's range, up to 186ppm (mg/L)
- Isolate the water supply to the softener and relieve pressure before opening the meter housing
- Open the Kinetico meter body and remove the disc that's currently fitted
- Fit Disc 3 (part number 1506), ensuring it's correctly seated, then reassemble the meter housing
- Restore the water supply and confirm the meter turns freely and the softener is regenerating on the correct cycle
