Product Description
Filter Sand 0.4mm – 0.8mm: Fine-Grade Quartz Filter Media (25kg)
This is the finest of our four graded quartz filter sands, and typically forms the top filtration layer in a multi-media pressure sand filter bed — the layer water passes through first, where the bulk of turbidity, sediment and suspended solids are trapped. A pressurised sand filter is usually built up in layers, running from fine sand at the top through to coarse gravel as a support layer at the base; in between, one or two intermediate grades are common.
Supplied as naturally rounded, washed and graded silica quartz, this is the same DKI Quartz filter media used across UK water treatment and private water supply systems.

Who it's for
- The top filtration layer in a multi-media pressure or rapid gravity sand filter
- Private water supply and borehole treatment systems needing fine sediment and turbidity removal
- Media top-ups or full bed replacements where the original system specified a fine-grade sand layer
Why it matters
Because this is the finest grade in the range, it does the most sediment-trapping work in the bed — but also needs the coarser grades and gravel beneath it to support it and stop it migrating down into the underdrain. Always check your filter system's own media schedule for the specified depth and layer order before ordering, since bed designs vary between manufacturers.
