Product Description
Filter Sand 0.5mm – 1.0mm: Standard-Grade Quartz Filter Media (25kg)
0.5mm–1.0mm is one of the most widely specified filter sand grades, commonly used as the main filtration layer in single-media rapid gravity filters, or as the primary layer in a multi-media bed. A pressurised sand filter is usually built up in layers, running from fine sand at the top through to coarse gravel as a support layer at the base; in between, one or two intermediate grades are common.
Supplied as naturally rounded, washed and graded silica quartz, this is the same DKI Quartz filter media used across UK water treatment and private water supply systems.

Who it's for
- The main filtration layer in a standard single-media rapid gravity sand filter
- Private water supply, borehole, and well treatment systems specifying a standard-grade sand
- Media top-ups or full bed replacements matching a 0.5-1.0mm specification
Why it matters
This mid-range grade balances filtration performance against flow rate — fine enough to remove sediment effectively, coarse enough to avoid excessive head loss and frequent backwashing. It's a common default specification across UK private water treatment systems. Always check your filter system's own media schedule for the specified depth and layer order before ordering, since bed designs vary between manufacturers.
