Product Description
Filter Sand 0.7mm – 1.2mm: Coarse-Grade Quartz Filter Media (25kg)
0.7mm–1.2mm is a coarser filter sand grade, typically used as an intermediate support layer beneath a finer filtration sand in a multi-media bed, or as the primary media in systems designed for higher flow rates with lower head loss. A pressurised sand filter is usually built up in layers, running from fine sand at the top through to coarse gravel as a support layer at the base; in between, one or two intermediate grades are common.
Supplied as naturally rounded, washed and graded silica quartz, this is the same DKI Quartz filter media used across UK water treatment and private water supply systems.

Who it's for
- Intermediate support layers in a multi-media sand filter bed, beneath a finer top layer
- Systems designed for higher flow rates where lower head loss matters
- Media top-ups or full bed replacements matching a 0.7-1.2mm specification
Why it matters
The coarser particle size lets water pass through more freely than the finer grades, which is useful either as a support layer that protects finer sand above it, or as the primary media where a system prioritises flow over maximum fine-particle capture. Always check your filter system's own media schedule for the specified depth and layer order before ordering, since bed designs vary between manufacturers.
