Why it fails / why it matters

The brine valve houses a small BLFC (brine line flow control) button and a spring-loaded plunger with rubber seals that together regulate how salt water is drawn from the brine tank and how the tank refills after regeneration. Grit, resin fines and mineral scale carried through the brine line can clog the BLFC button or wear the plunger's seat, so the valve either fails to seal shut afterwards - letting water bleed continuously to drain - or fails to draw brine at all, leaving your softener regenerating without properly recharging the resin.

How to fit it

1. Turn off the water supply and switch the softener's control valve to bypass
2. Disconnect the brine line tubing from the top of the brine valve housing
3. Unscrew or unclip the old brine valve assembly from the valve body
4. Fit the new 24114 assembly, checking the BLFC button orientation matches the original
5. Reconnect the brine line tubing securely
6. Restore the water supply, take the valve off bypass, and run a manual regeneration to confirm brine draw and refill are working correctly
