QJ30890 - - Master

The QJ30890 is a closed end cap quartz sleeve designed to fit 30W and 55W UV disinfection systems that use this end cap style. Supplied by WrekinWater, it houses the UV lamp fully enclosed at the cap end, keeping the lamp dry while letting UV-C light pass through to treat the water flowing around it. It's a straightforward replacement when your existing sleeve has clouded, scaled or reached the end of its service life.

Signs your quartz sleeve needs replacing

• Cloudiness, scale or scratching visible on the sleeve
• Water taking on a yellow or brown tint despite the lamp lighting
• A UV monitor or low-dose alarm activating, where fitted
• The sleeve has been in use for around 12 months

On a 30W or 55W closed end cap UV system, the quartz sleeve fully encloses the lamp at the cap end, keeping the lamp completely dry while allowing UV-C light to pass through the glass to disinfect the water flowing past it. As the sleeve scales, stains or scratches with use, less UV light gets through, so the system can under-treat the water even though the lamp is still lit. Replacing the sleeve restores the UV dose the system was designed to deliver.

How to replace it

1. Isolate the water supply to the UV unit and drain the housing
2. Undo the retaining nut or union to release the closed end cap
3. Withdraw the lamp, then remove the old quartz sleeve
4. Clean the housing and fit new O-rings
5. Insert the new QJ30890 sleeve and refit the lamp
6. Restore water and power, then run to drain briefly before use
