Product Description

Purolite® A860S: High-Efficiency Organic Scavenger & Decolorizing Anion Resin

Purolite® A860S is a premium, macroporous polyacrylic strong base anion exchange resin engineered specifically for organic scavenging and decolorization. Unlike standard resins, the unique polyacrylic matrix of the A860S provides exceptional resistance to organic fouling, making it the industry-leading choice for treating water supplies with high levels of tannins, humic acids, and fulvic acids.

Its specialized macroporous structure allows for the highly reversible adsorption of large organic molecules, ensuring that contaminants are easily released during regeneration. This results in consistent, long-term performance and lower operational costs for industrial and potable water systems.

Core Technical Advantages

1. Superior Organic Scavenging & Decolorization

Purolite A860S excels at removing "color" from water. It is designed to trap complex organic compounds that cause yellowing or brown tints in surface water. Because the adsorption is highly reversible, the resin maintains its capacity far longer than traditional gel-type resins.

2. Macroporous Polyacrylic Matrix

The polyacrylic structure is naturally more "elastic" and open than polystyrene resins. This physical characteristic, combined with the macroporous pore structure, prevents "organic trapping"—the primary cause of resin fouling and premature failure in organic-heavy environments.

3. High Regeneration Efficiency

Engineered for industrial economy, A860S requires lower salt dosages for regeneration while maintaining peak scavenging performance. This high efficiency reduces chemical waste and extends the overall service life of the resin bed.

Applications & Certifications

  • Surface Water Treatment: Removing tannins and organic matter from river or lake-sourced water.
  • Pre-treatment for Demineralizers: Protecting downstream anion resins from organic fouling.
  • Industrial Decolorization: Removing color from process liquids in various manufacturing sectors.
  • Potable Water Safe: Certified by the WQA to NSF/ANSI-61 Standard, making it safe for drinking water applications.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Fully Kosher certified.

An organic scavenger is a specialized resin used to remove naturally occurring organic matter (NOM), such as tannins and humic acids, from water. These organics often cause a yellow/brown tint and can foul standard ion exchange resins or interfere with disinfection processes.

Standard resins are often "polystyrene gel" types, which can permanently trap organic molecules, leading to "fouling." Purolite A860S uses a polyacrylic macroporous structure which has larger pores and a different chemical affinity, allowing organics to be washed away easily during every salt regeneration.
