Signs this seal needs replacing
- Water weeping from around the lid rather than the body of the filter.
- Needing to over-tighten the lid clamp or bolts to stop a leak.
- The seal looking flattened, cracked, or sticky when the lid is opened.
- A leak appearing shortly after the filter was last opened for cleaning.
The lid seal keeps the filter closed and watertight at the top, independent of the basket seal lower down. Because the lid is opened whenever the strainer basket needs cleaning, this seal is compressed and released repeatedly, and combined with exposure to warm circuit water it gradually hardens until it can no longer close the gap properly.
WrekinWater stocks this lid seal as a separate part from the basket seal so you can replace exactly the component that's failing, backed by 15 years of supplying closed circuit filter spares.
How to replace it
- Isolate the closed circuit system and relieve pressure at the filter.
- Undo the lid clamp or bolts and lift off the lid.
- Remove the old seal from the lid or body groove.
- Clean the sealing surface and lightly grease the new seal with food-safe silicone grease.
- Fit the new seal and refit the lid, tightening evenly.
- Repressurise the system and check the lid joint for leaks.
