The IX Defend is the heavy-duty option in the IX range, built with advanced multi-stage filtration to protect water systems and equipment from scale, gypsum and corrosion — the three problems that show up hardest in genuinely difficult water conditions. By balancing mineral content, reducing hardness-forming calcium and maintaining a stable pH, it's designed to safeguard equipment from boilers to steam ovens against damaging deposits and corrosion, even in challenging water conditions.

It's built on the same reusable IX Variable Head and casing as the rest of the range, with the internal cartridge exchanged and regenerated once it reaches capacity rather than the whole unit being replaced. A 5-stage filtration process (prefiltration, activated carbon, targeted hardness reduction, media-specific treatment and fine filtration) is where PFAS reduction also takes place, alongside the scale, gypsum and corrosion protection.

Who it's for

Sites in particularly hard, mineral-heavy or corrosive water areas — larger catering operations, multi-appliance kitchens, or any site that's had repeat scale, gypsum or corrosion-related equipment failures other filters haven't solved.

Why buy this from WrekinWater

We can test or discuss your local water hardness and mineral profile to confirm IX Defend is proportionate to your conditions, rather than over- or under-specifying protection.

Based on 180ppm influent water hardness at bypass 0, the Medium is rated for 2,000 litres and the Large for 3,644 litres. Both use the same 5-stage filtration and IX Variable Head — the difference is cartridge size and how long it lasts between changes.

Gypsum is a calcium sulphate mineral that can precipitate out of hard water onto heating elements and internal surfaces, similar to limescale but harder to remove with standard descaling. IX Defend's multi-stage media targets hardness-forming calcium and maintains a stable pH specifically to address this alongside general scale and corrosion.

IX Water's own documentation states that PFAS reduction takes place within IX Defend's 5-stage filtration process, alongside its scale, gypsum and corrosion protection. If PFAS reduction is your primary concern rather than a secondary benefit, the dedicated IX PFAS model is worth comparing — ask us for the latest documentation on either.
