Signs you need this part
- The head is cracked or weeping around the inlet or outlet ports.
- The clamp or thread that secures the bowl no longer holds pressure properly.
- The NPT ports have worn or stripped threads that won't seal with pipework.
- You're seeing leaks at the head-to-bowl joint even after fitting a new O-ring.
The head carries the full inlet and outlet plumbing connections and clamps the bowl in place under system pressure, so it takes more mechanical stress over time than almost any other part of the housing. Repeated clamping, thread wear from pipework being tightened and loosened, and general age can crack the plastic or round off the threads, and once that happens no amount of new O-rings will stop it leaking. A failing head risks a pressurised leak at the plumbing connections rather than a controlled, sealed joint.
WrekinWater is a family run company operating from Bettisfield, Shropshire, that has served more than 50,000 customers over 15 years and stocks genuine Pentair parts rather than aftermarket copies. Choosing the correct manufacturer head means the threads, clamp and O-ring groove match your existing bowl exactly, with support from a UK team (Company No. 11000488) rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
How to fit it
- Isolate the water supply and relieve pressure in the housing via the drain port before starting.
- Disconnect the inlet and outlet pipework from the old head.
- Unclamp and remove the old head, then lift out the bag and basket.
- Fit a new O-ring to the new head and offer it up to the bowl, securing the clamp evenly.
- Reconnect the inlet and outlet pipework to the 1" NPT ports using PTFE tape.
- Restore the water supply and check both the plumbing joints and the head-to-bowl seal for leaks.
