The pleated range spans polypropylene (Premier Pleat PPP, High Flow PPP-HF, Depth PPDP, High Efficiency PPHP), glass fibre (PPG), polyethersulfone (PPPES), nylon (PPN) and PTFE (PPPTFE) — each suited to a different combination of particle size, chemical compatibility, and application, from general sediment reduction through to pharmaceutical-grade filtration.

Pleating packs far more media surface area into the same cartridge size, giving higher flow rates, greater dirt-holding capacity, and a sharper, more precise micron cut-off than depth filters of a similar footprint. The trade-off is that pleated filters generally suit more consistent water conditions better than highly variable, heavily silted supplies.

Polypropylene is the general-purpose choice for most water filtration. Glass fibre offers higher dirt-holding capacity for heavier loads. Polyethersulfone (PPPES) is used where you need certified bacterial retention and steam sterilisability. Nylon and PTFE are chosen for specific chemical compatibility requirements — PTFE in particular handles aggressive chemicals and high temperatures that would degrade other media.

Across the Spectrum pleated range, micron ratings run from very coarse (100 micron) down to sub-micron (0.2 micron for certified bacterial retention grades), so the range covers everything from basic sediment pre-filtration through to critical process and pharmaceutical applications.

Spectrum's pleated cartridges are designed as single-use, disposable filters. While the caged, thermally-bonded construction is robust for handling and installation, the media itself isn't designed to be cleaned and reused — once loaded with sediment or reaching the end of its service life, replace the cartridge to maintain its rated performance.
